The Great Gray Owl
This Great Gray owl was transferred to us by the Sunriver Nature Center, after the bird was found on a roadside. It appears he was struck by a vehicle. Both of his eyes had evidence of trauma and he had hemorrhage in the back of his throat (likely coming from his lungs). He also had a fractured right radius and ulna and possibly a dislocated elbow.
We administered IV fluids, a Figure 8 bandage, ophthalmic meds, pain medicine and a tail sheath. He is getting treated daily and seems to be hanging in there!
Our awesome volunteer, Natalie S., is helping Dr. Cooney perform the initial examination and fluid administration.
